HISTORY
1894 - Gertie Whitlock was the Duchess of Palmerston, Ontario. She was 18 years old and madly in love with Henry Ballantyne.
Her family did not approve or support her plans to wed Henry so they secretly planned to elope on Oct 31st, Gertie's 19th birthday. She went to their secret meeting place at the Beaumont Hotel on 260 Daly Street and waited and waited for Henry.
He did not come and was never heard from again.
Gertie was devastated and couldn't bring herself to leave this place, always hoping for his return someday. She moved into the hotel and died of a broken heart on her 20th birthday.
The hotel burned down in 1951 and the Royal Canadian Legion was built on it's land. There are rumours of ghostly sightings and crying sounds in the hall of the Legion to this day.
...and Nightmare on Daly St. was born. The doors opened on Oct 31st, 2003 and we haven't looked back. We have been open for 8 years and each season we add new rooms and frights for our Patron's delight.
The haunt is comprised of volunteer Legion members and scare actors. The Legion hall is closed for rental the first weekend of October to start the build. This year our first show is Oct. 21, 2011.
